Please join us for an Artist Talk with Peter Bahouth on Saturday, April 21, 11am - 12pm at the Gallery, as we discuss his latest installation, RECOGNITION. Bahouth works exclusively with stereoscopic photography, through a technique learned from 15 years of trial, error, and the collection and study of thousands of found stereoscopic images from the 1950s and 60s. Bahouth served sequentially as Executive Director of Greenpeace USA, Ted Turner’s family foundation, and the U.S. Climate Action Network, before turning his professional attention solely to photography.
Up now: Peter Bathouth's Recognition, a site-specific installation featuring a new body of work. Recognition explores the power of friendship and personal relationships to transcend the common transactions of daily life and our increasing social polarization. These 35mm and medium format stereoscopic portraits are exhibited in a sitting area with a specially constructed light table designed to serve as a contemporary version of the way 3D images were shown in the late 1800’s – the family living room. Recognition is the third in a series of exhibits that includes Birth Of A Red Planet and Vent.
“Topsey-Turvy,” 2018, by H. Gay Allen, up now in our CHOICE exhibition, through April 28.
“Hanging by a Thread,” 2018, by Nancy Rorabaugh, up now in our CHOICE exhibition, through April 28.
CALL FOR ENTRY / Deadline is April 12 ... APG is seeking photographic projects from southern artists or artists working in the American South for KNOW SOUTH / NO SOUTH exhibition that will offer a new $2500 purchase award. Exhibition will be juried by Richard McCabe (@rich_mccabe), photography curator at the Ogden Museum(@ogdenmuseum) in New Orleans. McCabe will be selecting works from 6-8 artists that explore or challenge the idea of Southern identity in the 21st century. One artist will be selected for a purchase award of $2,500 and selected works will enter the High Museum (@highmuseumofart) permanent collection.
