Many thanks to Carl and to all our guests.

Atlanta art writer Jerry Cullum, on Juror and Ogden Museum of Southern Art curator of photography Richard McCabe's Know South / No South, for ArtsATL:

"How do we know the South in a world of homogenization in which the actual buildings and landscapes suggest that in many ways there is now “no South”? The geographic region and the various cultures that make up “the South” all still exist, but they exist in a very different context and under different conditions." Read more

Airport Show To Resume

One of APG’s most popular exhibitions has always been our annual juried Airport Show. So when Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport  gave us the disappointing news last year that they would no longer be holding exhibitions in the main Atrium, we were a little disappointed to say the least. Well, plans changed, and the world's busiest airport recently reached out to us to see if we would be interested in continuing to organize the Airport’s exhibition for Atlanta Celebrates Photography (ACP), and we said: Yes, please. ACP Executive Director Amy Miller has already agreed to continue on as Airport Show judge, so that is more great news. Stay tuned.

John Sumner, "Boy at the Fair"

John Sumner, "Boy at the Fair"

John Sumner has been an active APG member and exhibiting photographer for many years. In early 2016 he suffered a stroke and has since been working hard to recover. Friend and fellow photographer Chip Simone recently spoke with him, and we now have information for our members who would like to visit and otherwise support him. John is at the Bud Terrace Community at Emory's Wesley Woods facility on 1817 Clifton Rd NE, Atlanta. He is in Room 514 and visitation hours are after 12:30pm. You can call him at 404-728-4965, and the number for the nurses' station is 404-728-6494. We're sure John would love to hear from his fellow artists and friends. There is also a GoFundMe set up to help with rehabilitation costs.

Recognition Reviewed

April 19, 2018 Spencer Sloan

Atlanta art critic Jerry Cullum, on Peter Bahouth's Recognition, for Burnaway:

"Bahouth has set out to create a spontaneous community to view his documentation of the community in which he lives and works. It is this innovation that distinguishes these portrait photos from the ones in the group show that fill the walls of the gallery around Bahouth’s installation. The “power of friendship” described by Bahouth in the wall text is still basically the personal relationship between the photographer and his individual subjects, but the implication is that the invisible network they form could transmute as quickly as the spontaneous interactions of friends or strangers that this viewing format might generate." Read more

Reminder: Bahouth's artist talk is this Saturday, April 21, at 11am.
