Steve Schaefer’s photographs have been published on the front pages of The Washington Post, USA Today, The New York Times and other national and international publications. He has also worked for The Associated Press, Reuters, Agence France-Presse and Getty Images. Prior to going freelance in 1991, he was a staff photographer for papers in Seattle Washington, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Atlanta, Georgia. Along with the daily assignments typical for a photojournalist, Schaefer had the pleasure of shooting the summer Olympics in1996, a couple of World Series, and every postseason Braves baseball games between 1991 and 2005. He shot many Atlanta Hawks basketball games including when Lenny Wilkens was coaching and at least winning the division titles. He also had the pleasure of shooting a Super Bowl here in Atlanta and got the chance to run up and down the sidelines after Michael Vick. He has chased hurricanes from North Carolina to Florida and tornadoes all over the Southeast. His commercial clients include national corporations such as Delta Airlines, BellSouth, and Emory Hospital and was a contributor for The New York Times best-selling book America 24/7.
