Call For Entry: Southern Currents


As a part of APG’s off-site, community engagement, artists are invited to submit entries for Southern Currents, a juried exhibition at Johns Creek Art Center. The Center can host a broad range of sizes and types of photographic art. Current and former APG Executive Directors Judith Pishnery and Beth Lilly will serve as jurors and will select the images for exhibition. Photographers are to submit up to 5 images of Southern spaces, faces, or places, be they real or imagined, or concerned with some other, unknown Southern theme. (Southern being the southern US.)

Judith Pishnery


Prior to APG, Judith Pishnery served as Photography Department Director at Gwinnett Technical College, where she oversaw the department’s refurbishing of new equipment and implemented a new curriculum to include a solid technical and creative photographic base, along with an eye to current trends and techniques affecting a photographic career. As a professional photographer, Pishnery works on assignment for editorial, catalog, advertising, and corporate clients. Her photography have been exhibited and collected throughout the South East. Pishnery served on the board of the American Photographic Artists/Atlanta (APA), the Advisory Board of Atlanta Celebrates Photography (ACP) and has been involved on the Board of Directors of ACP since the early planning sessions in 1998. Pishnery received her MA and MFA graduate degrees from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).

Beth Lilly


Beth Lilly is an artist, curator, and the former executive director for APG. An innovative thinker, Lilly has been exhibiting her conceptually driven photographic projects for over thirty years. Recent exhibitions include: New Mexico Museum of Art, the High Museum of Art, the Zuckerman Museum, Whitespace Gallery, the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, the Center for Fine Art Photography, and MOCA GA. A Hambidge Fellow, Lilly also received grants from Fulton County Arts Council, Society for Photographic Education and Atlanta Celebrates Photography. Her critically acclaimed performance/interactive project The Oracle @ WiFi was published by Kehrer Verlag in 2012.

Pick Up: Works must be picked up by May 20, 2019 (during regular gallery hours).


  • This show is open to all members of APG and to all photographic media. If you are not a member of APG, you can join HERE.

  • Works must be framed using black or white frames with white, off-white, or black mats, and glass or plexiglass. Prints on canvas or metal can be hung if they are properly wired and are capable of being securely and squarely hung. Other framing requires the advanced approval of APG.

  • Works delivered for the exhibition that differ from those entered and/or not meeting exhibition quality standards in printing or presentation will be disqualified.

  • By entering this exhibition you agree to APG’s Artist Entry Terms & Guidelines.

Second: Prepare Text File and Images

  • Export up to 5 images as .jpg. Resize to maximum 2048 px on the longest side.

  • Rename files to the title of the work, exactly as you wish it to appear (Example: My Great Photo.jpg) Your name will be automatically prepended to each file upon upload.

  • Create a text file with your: name, artist statement (500 words max), and title list that includes: creation year, media, framed size. Save file as a Word doc or PDF and upload file + images. We suggest you download the example file on this page to use as a starting point.

  • All entrants will receive a confirmation email after the entry fee is paid and files have been uploaded. Confirmation email will be sent after the CFE has closed. If APG has any questions or problems with your entry, you will be contacted to resolve any issues.
