Join us for a special Gallery Relations workshop hosted by Spalding Nix of Spalding Nix Fine Art and Mary Stanley of Mary Stanley Studio, independent curator, consultant, collector, and president of Atlanta Celebrates Photography (ACP). In this two-part workshop, Nix and Stanley will candidly speak on topics such as approaching galleries, developing relationships and networking, and professionally presenting your work. Following the discussion, up to 12 artists will have the opportunity to meet with Nix or Stanley for a 15-minute portfolio review session. You may register for the discussion and/or the portfolio reviews.
Location: Workshop will take place at Spalding Nix Fine Art.
Mary Stanley is an independent curator, art consultant, artist representative and collector. Mary Stanley Studio works with artists, collectors, curators, museums, galleries and five nonprofit institutions to enhance the cultural and creative climate in Atlanta and beyond. Stanley is a juror for Photoville Fence, Critical Mass, Atlanta Celebrates Photography and portfolio reviewer for GA State Univ, SCAD, Lamar Dodd School of Art at UGA and others since starting her business in 2004. She founded Young Collectors Club ATL in 2006 and continues to provide educational programming and consultation for collectors throughout the US.
Atlanta native Spalding Nix has a long history in the Atlanta art world - interning at the Heath Gallery, working at Jackson Fine Art, and opening his eponymous gallery in 2003.
At UVA, Nix majored in both Art History and Studio Art. After working at Jackson Fine Art, Spalding attended the University of Georgia’s School of Law specializing in Intellectual Property and International Law. In the fall of 2003, Nix opened Spalding Nix Fine Art. ArtsATL's Jerry Cullum described the gallery as "elegantly conservative and the transgressively adventurous." In addition to dealing art, Nix is an appraiser valuing personal property, art and antiques, who recently rediscovered a long lost John Singer Sargent watercolor of Venice and a forgotten Norman Rockwell study of Abraham Lincoln. As an Accredited Member of the American Society of Appraisers, Mr. Nix provides valuation services for donation, estate, insurance, and litigation-related purposes.
As an art adviser, Nix assists individual and corporate clients like the Fortune 500 company Printpack in navigating the Art World by offering confidential and objective advice in the acquisition or sale of fine and decorative art. Nix has assisted clients in private sales from original Picasso drawings to rare Josef Koudelka photographs.
