Erin L. Scott, "3 Feet High and Rising, 4"

APG is pleased to present Portfolio 2018, an exhibition juried by Sam Barzilay. Six exceptional artists: Vanessa Filley, Michael W. Hicks, Kasey Medlin, Dale Niles, Erin L. Scott, and Cherie E. Truesdell, were chosen to represent the best of contemporary photography from a national call for entries. Each artist featured in the exhibition offers a diverging approach to environmental portraiture, ranging from the surreal, to the intimate, and encompassing everything from staged narratives to social documentary work.

Opening ReceptionFriday, Feb 9, 6pm – 9pm

Juror Talk with Sam Barzilay

Portfolio 2018 juror Sam Barzilay will speak on the works he selected for the exhibition, and, more broadly, contemporary trends in photography. He will be taking questions from the audience after a brief presentation. Currently serving as Creative Director of United Photo Industries, a New York based art-presenting organization promoting a wider understanding of photography, Sam Barzilay is also the co-founder of Photoville, a photographic gathering that has rapidly become among the largest and best-attended photo festivals in North America. Sam is also one of the founding producers of the T3 Photo Festival, in Tokyo, Japan.

Juror Talk: Saturday, Feb 10, 1pm - 2pm

Critique with Barbra Griffin

An APG favorite, Barbara Griffin returns to lead the discussion this February. Griffin is an independent Creative Director and Photo Editor. She serves as Board President for Atlanta Celebrates Photography (ACP), a non-profit arts organization which produces the largest annual community-oriented photo festival in the US. Critique is for members only, but we welcome an exploratory visit. Participants are limited to 6 prints, no larger than 16” x 20”-ish. If you’d like to present your work, put your name on the sign-up sheet when you arrive. Critique is structured so everyone is afforded equal time. No work? No problem, observing is just as valuable.
